34th Annual Day at the Legislature
Monday, March 6, 2017
NOTE: Due to ongoing State Capitol renovations, the entire event will be held at St. Paul’s Cathedral, 127 N.W. 7th Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73102
OCC’s Day at the Legislature builds bridges between people of faith, community members, activists, and policymakers, helping people make connections, learn from one another, and find common ground. As people of hope, we are reminded that Jesus’ message was one of liberation for all and restoration of right relationships. Through prayer, advocacy training, networking and mobilization with other Christians, we can face the reality of mass incarceration, the school-to-prison pipeline, and the war on drugs, calling for policies that bring liberation both to the prisoner and to a community in need of restoration.
The closing speaker is the Rev. Peter Sawtell, founder and executive director of Eco-Justice Ministries (Denver, CO). He has a diverse background in academics, professional work, and community involvement which has prepared him well for leadership of this ecumenical agency. Sawtell will lead a breakout session in the afternoon, as well as present the final session at 3:45 in the sanctuary at St. Paul’s. Sawtell is well known for his ability to motivate and bring together diverse people groups.
